Low Price Eyeglasses

Should I go with 1.67 high-index aspheric lenses?

My eyeglass frame was broken last night so I went to Wal-Mart to get a new pair of prescription glasses. The salesgirl who selling the prescription glasses was pushing for the 1.67 lenses for $120. According to her description, the lenses will be very thick if I get the much cheaper standard plastic lenses. She said that since the frames I choose is with big lens width measurement. The thickness of the lenses would stand out and will not have a better appearance. She thought I should take her advice and go with the 1.67 high index lenses.

My prescription is as follows:
Sphere Cylinder Axis
Right: -3.75 -0.50 067
Left: -4.00 -0.75 089

PD 62mm
I was planning on getting lenses for the following glasses. The size of the frame is 52-17-135(mm).

After a few hours, I started having a second thought about getting the 1.67 high index lenses. I wasn’t too sure if I should go with them. I postponed my order for now on the phone so that I could make a more intelligent decision. I was trying to decide between regular plastic lenses and high-index 1.67 lenses. I tried Googling ‘glasses lenses online’ and see what’s there. I noticed an online store called www.cheapglasses123.com (an American site), at their company, I could get 1.67 high index lenses at only $55.90 including postage plus anti scratch and UV protection coating (all of which cost me a fortune when I bought from Wal-Mart) I asked their customer service staff to see if I should get high index lenses, as I am not sure how thick the lenses will end up looking. They informed me that the difference in thickness isn’t significant between the type of lenses for my prescription, Their lab can have the lenses rolled and polished at no extra charge so that should reduce the thickness a bit. Based on their description 1.67 is probably overkill for me, I could definitely go for the 1.61 index lenses which cost only $24.95. The 1.67 index lenses are perfect for a prescription that reaches 5 diopters. High index are pushed by those salesgirls because they are more expensive and could bring them profit.

I took her advice and order a pair of prescription glasses at glassespeople.com, In less than 10 days, I received my new glasses. I would say they really did a great job, the glasses fit me perfectly. They do not have a coke bottle and look great on me. Moreover, it saves me up to 95 US Dollars. I highly recommend them to all the eyeglass wearers.
